Study topic: Swimming abilities and predator avoidance by dislodged sockeye salmon alevins

My MSc. research aims to establish the survival threshold of alevin sockeye salmon (Oncorhynchus nerka) if early emergence occurs due to a scouring event. To do this I will be focusing on four aspects of sockeye survival: swimming aptitude, foraging ability, predator avoidance behaviour and capability to re-bury into the gravel.

Past Research: Undergraduate project – An investigation into foraging success with regards to size, in the sea urchinStrongylocentrotus droebachiensis (Malaspina University-College now Vancouver Island University)

Undergraduate project – Ecological role of Lake Whitefish (Coregonus clupeaformis) in Skaha and Osoyoos Lakes (Malaspina University-College now Vancouver Island University)
